Sense of Grievance Against Institutions and the Wealthy as Economic Pressures Mount

The 2025 Edelman Trust Barometer reveals a stark reality in Ireland: while trust in business remains strong, public expectations for transparency and tangible action have never been higher. With economic pressures mounting and trust in government and media declining, businesses have a unique opportunity and active responsibility, to lead through transparency, ethical leadership, and genuine action.

Economic Uncertainty Fuels Public Distrust

Economic strain may be a key driver of distrust, with the cost-of-living crisis, job security fears, and wage concerns shaping public sentiment. Only 22% of respondents in Ireland believe things will be better off for the next generation compared to today, underscoring a prevailing sense of insecurity.

Wealth inequality is a shared concern

In Ireland, 71% believe the wealthy do not pay their fair share of taxes, intensifying economic grievances and increasing pressure on institutions to deliver real solutions.

Business is obligated to empower employees

A key way for businesses to navigate this high-grievance world is by providing economic security, with over 8 in 10 Irish respondents saying business is obligated to offer good-paying jobs to the community and reskill employees.
